George Gegg was born in Duntisbourne, Gloucestershire in 1882, the son of stone mason William and Louisa. George also had three brothers and a sister.

According to the 1901 Census, George was living in Duntisbourne and working as a Drapers Assistant.

George married Lilian Annie Pullen in 1904 in Dorking, they had two children, Cecil George and Ernest William and lived at 5 Wathen Road in Dorking. George was working as a tailor and outfitter.

George joined the Royal Army Service Corps as Acting Corporal with the Army number M2/176243.

He was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 in France and was buried at Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension, France in Plot 11. F25.
