Lance Corporal Frederick Worsfold

Benjamin was born 21st September 1892 in Oxshott, Surrey, and baptised 6th November that year, in Stoke d’Abernon,  Surrey.  His father John Worsfold was an agricultural worker from Ockley, and his mother  was Maria Emma Hutchings. The family lived at Walliswood, Ockley.

In 1901 the census shows Benjamin was working at Woodlands Park Farm, Leatherhead.  By 1911 he was calling himself Frederick (rather than Benjamin) and working as a gardener at Fetcham Park, Leatherhead.

Frederick joined the 4th Battalion of the Coldstream Guards as a Lance Corporal with the regimental number 12582.

He died on 4th December 1917, buried in Valenciennes Communal Cemetery, France I. V. 26. and remembered on Ockley memorial.
