Sergeant Frederick Maidment

Frederick was born in Tollard Royal near Tisbury Wiltshire in 1880, one of a large family. His Father was a carpenter and he had several brothers and sisters. He is still listed as living in Wiltshire in 1911 and gives his occupation as gardener.

He enlisted at Guildford and gave his residence as being Waddenhouse Surrey, (Wotton House). Frederick initially joined the Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment – number 3567 then transferred to the London Regiment 703161. He was awarded the Military medal.

He was killed in action aged 38 on 22 August 1918 and buried at the Bray Vale British Cemetery at Bray Sur Somme.
