Frederick was born in Dorking in 1886, and baptised at St. Martin’s Church, Dorking on 15th September 1886. The son of bootmaker Richard and his wife Clara.
In 1891, the family were living in St. Martin’s Place, Dorking. Frederick was one of three brothers.
By 1901, both Frederick’s parents had died, and he was living in Falkland Road, Dorking with his aunt and his cousins. Frederick was working as an errand boy. By 1911, he was still living in Falkland Road with his cousins, but was working as an errand boy.
Frederick joined the 7th Battalion of the Queen’s Own Royal West Surrey Regiment as a private with the army number 241693. He was killed in action on 12th October 1917 at the Battle of Passchendaele. Frederick’s body was never found and he is remembered on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Panel 106-108.
His soldiers effects were given to his wife Susan, but we have been unable to find any record of the marriage.
