Percy William King was born in the 3rd quarter of 1883 in Marylebone, London to gardener Albert and Agnes (nee Root).
Percy’s father Albert was born about 1853 in Mount Bures, Essex. His mother Agnes was born about 1852 in Hedingham, Essex. Albert and Agnes married on 3rd September 1872 in West Hackney, London.
Percy had six known siblings: Maurice, born about 1874 in Hedingham, Essex; Eleanor born about 1876; Arthur born about 1878; Agnes born about 1879; Albert born about 1881 and Alfred, born about 1886, all in Marylebone. Percy had one half-brother: Cecil was born about 1892 in Marylebone.
At the time of the 1881 Census, the family lived at 11 Henstridge Place, Marylebone. Albert was working as a gardener and Agnes was looking after their children.
Percy’s mother Agnes died in the 4th quarter of 1888 in Marylebone, London.
At the time of the 1891 Census, the widowed gardener Albert was still living at Henstridge Villas. The household further comprised of his children, and Lizzie Hailey. Albert married Lizzie in the 2nd quarter of 1891 in Marylebone. Albert died in the 1st quarter of 1898 in Marylebone.
At the time of the 1901 Census, Lizzie lived with her son Cecil at 11 Henstridge Villas. Her mother Elizabeth Hailey was also staying with the family. The household further comprised of Lizzie’s stepsons: gas fitter Albert, plumbers apprentice Percy and portmanteau maker Alfred.
Percy married Dorcas Robbins, by Banns, on 29th July 1911 at All Saint’s church in St John’s Wood. At the time of their marriage the couple were living at the family home; 11 Henstridge Villas. Percy was working as a milkman. Dorcas Robbins was born in the 2nd quarter of 1884 in Marylebone.
DORKING RURAL AREA
Nearly forty cases were dealt with a sitting of the Dorking Rural Tribunal on Thursday afternoon, when there were present : Mr. F. D. Grisell, J. P (Chairman), Mrs. Maw, Messrs H. C. Lee Steere, J.P., A. J. Canter, C. Knight and H. E. Ponting, with Mr. A. Perceval Keep (Military Representative), and Mr. W. J. Down (Clerk).

Percy enlisted in Dorking, Surrey into the Royal Engineers. He was a Private with regiment number 232264.
Later he was transferred into the 13th Battalion, (Forest of Dean Pioneers), the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was a Private with regimental number 35092.
Percy King died on 27th March 1918 in France.
His body was exhumed and reburied at the Heath Cemetery Harbonnieres, France. His grave reference number is: II. F. 8. The headstone bears the inscription: “Peace Perfect Peace”.
Percy was awarded the British War and Victory medals.
Dorcas King received £11, 14d and 2s on 4th October 1919 in Soldier’s Effects. She returned to live with her parents at 25 Henry Street, St John’s Wood.
