Archibald Henry Pettifer was born in 1891, the son of Henry and Mercy Pettifer, who lived in Rose Cottage, Dawes Green. He enlisted and was a Corporal in the 4th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. He was killed in action on 29th September 1918, aged 27 years. He had married and he left a wife, Elizabeth E. Pettifer who had gone to live in 3, Newchapel Road, Lingfield, Surrey. He is buried together with thousands of others at Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke in Belgium, grave reference 86-88.
Efforts to learn more about him both in Leigh and Reigate, also in Woking, have proved unsuccessful.
