Edward was born on 20th December 1891 in Chobham, the son of Policeman Joseph George and Emma Jane, he was one of ten children and the family lived at Caldwith Cottage.
In 1901, the family moved to 15 Jubilee Terrace Dorking, and in 1911 Edward was working as a butchers assistant at Walters Pork Butchers.
He enlisted at Guildford on 19th October 1914 aged 24 years and 2 months. Edward was 5 feet and 7 inches. He joined the Royal West Surrey Regiment, number 3072.
He was killed in action on 2nd October 1916 on the Somme, fighting as part of 1st/23rd Battalion, London Regiment, number 703144.
He is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial Pier and Face 9 D 9 C 13 C and 12 C.
His mother, Emma was living at 8 Monteh Road, Forest Hill, London when he died.
