Thomas was born in Capel in 1884 to Edwin and Jane Wales who lived in Elm Cottages, Capel. Edwin was employed as a general labourer.
Thomas enlisted into the first battalion of the Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment at Guildford. He was still living in Capel and like his father was working as a general labourer.
Thomas, aged 33 years, was killed in action on the 23rd of April, 1917. He has no known grave. His name is inscribed on the Arras Memorial.
