Born in 1898, the eldest son of Edwin and Catherine (nee Wood) Fuller of the Brickyard Wotton. Edwin’s father had been born in Leatherhead, and his mother, in Abinger. In 1911 there were 6 children living in the household, with Edwin being the oldest. There was also an uncle living in the house. The family seems to have been routed in this area of Surrey with various members of both the Fuller and Wood family being born in Abinger, Shere, Westcott and Dorking. Both sides of the family worked in agriculture, Edwin was an under cowman, his brother a groom and father-in-law Wood a shepherd. At the time of the 1911 census the younger Edwin was still at school.
He enlisted in the Queens Royal West Surrey Regiment (G4751) at Guildford. He was killed on 25th September 1917 in Belgium, aged 18. His body was later buried at the Hooge Crater Cemetery. A war gratuity of £12 was granted to his mother.
Wotton Man’s Death
Mrs. Edwin Fuller has received the sad news of her son Lce-Corpl. Edward [sic] Fuller. He joined the Royal West Surrey Regiment in 1914; only 19 years of age, he went forward to do his duty, and set a fine example to

other young fellows. Before joining the Army he was employed by Mr. Evelyn at Wotton, where he was a member of the Rifle Club. He was much liked by all his friends in Wotton and Abinger. Lce.-Corpl. Fuller was wounded in July, 1916. His father is also serving his King and county with the “Queen’s” in India.
