Thank you to Patricia Brazier for the following research.
Edward Archibald Seward was born in the December quarter of 1899 in Dorking.
In the 1901 census, Edward’s family are living in Bramley, Surrey. His father Henry is a commercial traveller and his mother is named Agnes. They have a large family of nine sons and three daughters. Henry’s occupation as a commercial traveller had meant the family moved around the south of England quite extensively and the children have been born in several locations. However Edward, his twin brother Henry Bernard and sister Madge were born in Dorking.
In the 1911 census the family are living in Milford, Surrey. Edward is at school.
Edward and his twin brother, Henry enlisted into the Lincolnshire Regiment on the same day, as their regimental numbers are consecutive, Edward 9773 and Henry 9774.
Sadly Edward died of disease in Portsmouth on 11 January 1917. He is buried at Highland Road Cemetery in Portsmouth. His brother Henry served throughout the war and died in 1980.
