Heritage Open Days 2023

The Hope Mausoleum

Sunday 10th September – 12.00pm – 4.00pm

The Hope Mausoleum will be open to the public.

A brief introductory talk on the history of this historic building and the Hope family will be given on the hour

The Deepdene estate first came to prominence in the mid 17th century when it was inherited by the Hon Charles Howard in 1652. He soon set about building a new house and began creating one of the earliest true Italian gardens in the country.

Walking Tour of Betchworth Castle – including access to the Castle enclosure

Join a Dorking Museum guide for a 90 minute walk around the castle including access to the Castle enclosure.

Walks leave from the entrance to Betchworth Park Golf Club, opposite Hilliers Garden Centre.

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

Pub Walk

Join us in a stroll through Dorking’s past as told around its many hostelries pubs and inns, both past and present. Hear about how the local residents behaved – and misbehaved. The tour will leave Dorking Museum and lasts an hour and a half.
