Playing with Words – Thursday 14th November

“Playing with Words” – An evening of shared reflection: questions, answers and poetry.

We invite you to attend a “talk about” in response to “You, Me and Those Who Came Before” – our current exhibition which delves into Dorking’s response to the refugee crisis through the ages.

Thinking about moments of inspiration and the idea that one creative ‘act’ inspires another, and each other, we look at creativity as a means of processing feelings of love and loss in the aftermath of war – past and present, with the future in mind.

There will be an opportunity for attendees to try their hand at creative writing, as a matter of ‘first response’. Experience of being a poet is not necessary. Materials will be provided: pens, paper as well as texts which can be cut and pasted from which to make something new.

Sophia Cowx, Art Psychotherapist and founder of The Poppy Collective, will guide participants on this creative journey. Members of the Dorking Refugee Support Group on hand to share the work they do at present and answer any question about pathways to getting involved.Tickets are priced at £7.00 (£5.00 for members) and include a glass of Prosecco.

Please note that seating is on a first come first seated basis.
