Joseph Alexander Watt was born in 1887 in Portrush, County Antrim. He was the son of James and Agnes Watt.
Joseph spent his early life in County Antrim, where he worked as a carpenter. In 1916, he married Winifred Ellen Wakefield in Kingston, Surrey. Winifred lived at the Rookery in Westcott, Surrey.
Joseph enlisted in Coleraine, Co. Derry into the 6th Battalion of the Royal Irish Rifles. He was a private with the Army number 10264.
He was killed in action on 16th May 1917 in Salonika, Greece and is buried in Struma Military Cemetery in plot VII.B.11
