Christopher was born on 4th November 1871 in Holmbury St. Mary in Surrey. His father was Frank Walton: a Landscape Artist and his mother’s name was Sophia (nee Flower). He had one brother named Geoffrey and a sister named Dorothy.
Christopher’s family lived at Hurtwood Cottage in Holmbury St. Mary. He attended Lancing College, and then Cambridge University.
After leaving University, Christopher served in the Boer War between 1898 and 1901. In 1910 he travelled to Canada and became a Farmer. He then moved to California. In 1917 he moved back to Canada and enlisted into the Forestry & Railway Construction Depot. His Attestation papers show that he was 5 feet and 8 inches tall, he had brown eyes and light brown hair. His occupation was as a rancher and fruit grower. His address was Lamanda Park in Pasadena California. His next of kin was his mother, who was living in Holmbury St Mary.
He left Canada with the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 27th November 1917. He spent time in France and then moved to Egypt, where he contracted Paratyphoid and then Malaria. He was sent to the General Hospital in Calais in December 1917 and then to the General Hospital in Orpington, England, from where he was discharged on 5th September 1918 and discharged from the Army due to ill health. He then returned to his family home in Holmbury St Mary.
After recuperating at home, he returned to California in March 1920 to resume his work as a Fruit Farmer. He died on 25th April 1921 and is buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Los Angeles.
Christopher’s family continued to live in Holmbury St Mary. Sophia, his mother died in October 1921. Frank, his father died in January 1928. Dorothy did not marry and died in 1932. Geoffrey, his brother also served in South Africa and in WW1. He died in 1926.
