Sergeant Harry Christmas Mitchell

Harry was born in Capel in 1882. His parents were David and Annie Mitchell. They lived at 56 The Street. His father was a bricklayer.

On the 18th April 1907, Harry, then a grocery manager living in Capel, married Mary Ada Wrighton of Camberwell, at St Mark’s Church, Camberwell. Harry was living at 71 Gosberton Road, Balham, London when he enlisted in the 9th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers.

Harry was killed in action on the 3rd of May 1917. He has no known grave. His name is inscribed on the Arras Memorial in France.
