5th May – Surrey Day, WW1 Soldiers and online resources.

Saturday 2nd May was Surrey Day. The Museum had planned to open the caves and had several walks organised – but we had to cancel all that. BBC Surrey celebrated the day by holding a celebration on the Radio. They invited the Museum’s Kathy Atherton to talk about the Dorking Chicken. Listen to the interview here… Kathy is at 43 minutes in. She also learnt to make croquettes over the weekend…. so someone is making very good use of their time!

The Museum has welcomed back some volunteers who have been furloughed – and are now able to help us. Lenka Cathersides helped the Museum out with our First World War research and has now come back to help us with our last few soldiers.

We added Thomas Huggett to the website today.

Surrey History Centre are putting many resources online during lockdown and it is worth checking out  their website for help with family or property research that people maybe doing during this time. Have a look at their work here.
